Admission requirements

To be offered enrolment in a course at the University you must meet the general requirements listed in one or more of the following categories, satisfy English language requirements and be selected in competition with other eligible applicants.

In some cases you may need to complete a questionnaire - refer to the course description for 101100 B Inclusive Education and Disability Studies and 105500 B Exercise Science for further information.

Australian secondary studies

If you are a 2008 Australian Year 12 student you are usually assessed on the basis of your Universities Admission Index (UAI) or equivalent. Refer to table 4 - Year 12 conversion table for interstate equivalents.

If you are a 2008 Australian Year 12 student who has previously undertaken Year 12, you will be considered on the basis of your latest UAI or equivalent.

Offers made to applicants who have a UAI below the published cut-off
ACU National has a number of alternative pathways for admission, which may allow 2008 NSW and ACT Year 12 applicants to receive an offer to a course even though they have a UAI below the published cut-off. They include:

For further details read the relevant sections below.

Year 12 Access Schemes
You must be a 2008 Year 12 student and be eligible for a UAI or Limited UAI to apply to the following access schemes. You must also meet relevant course prerequisites - see individual course entries for ACU.

Note: An offer to a course under these schemes can only be made if you have completed the application procedures and included the course as a preference on your UAC application.

Elite Athlete Scheme
2008 Year 12 applicants who have demonstrated exceptional sporting skills (including an internationally competitive history) may be selected for admission to 105500 B Exercise Science on the basis of a questionnaire and interview. For an application form visit www.acu.edu.au/forms or call Strathfield campus Student Centre on (02) 9701 4012, or North Sydney campus Student Centre on (02) 9739 2305. The closing date for applications is 31 October 2008.

Disadvantaged Schools Entry Scheme
The University recognises applicants from ACT and NSW schools that have been designated as disadvantaged. Applicants from these schools will receive bonus points where they include ACU preferences.

This adjustment will be made automatically before offer rounds commence. Eligible applicants are not required to lodge an application for this adjustment. Ask your Careers Adviser whether your school has been included in the scheme.

Early Achievers Program (EAP)
The Early Achievers Program (EAP) recognises Year 12 applicants who have achievements in areas such as their engagement with the community in cultural, sporting or religious activities. Applicants are assessed on their demonstrated capacity and potential for tertiary study before completion of their Year 12 studies. This allows successful applicants to plan their forthcoming studies and other activities with confidence, knowing they have an offer to ACU. For more information visit www.acu.edu.au/courses/early_entry/.

Previous Australian secondary studies
If you completed Year 12 before 2008 and have not attempted any tertiary studies since that time, you will be assessed on the basis of your secondary qualification; that is, your UAI or equivalent.

Australian tertiary studies

If you have undertaken tertiary studies you will be assessed on either your Year 12 results and/or your tertiary record. Single subjects of less than 0.2 years full-time equivalence are not assessable. In some cases you may not complete a questionnaire - refer to the course description for B Inclusive Education and Disability Studies 101110 and B Exercise Science 105500 and for further information.

Current students of ACU National
Current students, including students on interrupted study, who wish to transfer from one course to another, must formally apply by transfer application to ACU. Former ACU students, who have completed one year or more of study, should apply for readmission directly to the University.

Overseas qualifications

Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia with overseas qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction must provide evidence of English language proficiency.

Refer to table 7 – Commonly accepted overseas secondary qualifications for information on overseas secondary qualifications.

Alternative entry

TAFE or equivalent qualifications

Non-School Leavers' Entry Program (NELP)
The Non-School Leavers' Entry Prorgam recognises non-Year 12 applicants who have made achievements in areas such as their profession and their engagement with the community in cultural, sporting or religious activities. Applicants are assessed on their demonstrated capacity and potential for tertiary study and may be made an early offer. This allows successful applicants to plan their forthcoming studies and other activities with confidence, knowing they have an offer to ACU.

Continuing students who wish to transfer to another course at ACU in 2009 must apply directly to the University. Students are eligible to apply to transfer to a CSP after successful completion of one year of full-time study. Transfer to a CSP is not guaranteed and selection will depend on the student's academic performance and course availability.

Continuing students who wish to transfer to a course at another institution in 2009 must apply through UAC.

Deferred students
Students who were offered a place in a DFEE course in 2008 and deferred until 2009 will be able to continue their studies in 2009.
