Admission requirements

To be offered enrolment in a course at the University you must meet the general requirements listed in one or more of the following categories, satisfy English language requirements and be selected in competition with other eligible applicants.

2007 Australian Year 12 applicants

If you are a 2007 Australian Year 12 student you are usually assessed on the basis of your Universities Admission Index (UAI) or equivalent. Refer to table 4 - Year 12 conversion table for interstate equivalents.

If you are a 2007 Australian Year 12 student who has previously undertaken Year 12, you will be considered on the basis of your latest UAI or equivalent.

Previous Australian secondary studies (including Limited UAI)
If you completed Year 12 before 2007 and have not attempted any tertiary studies since that time, you will be assessed on the basis of your secondary qualification; that is, your UAI, Limited UAI or equivalent.

Offers made to applicants who have a UAI below the published cut-off
ACU National has a number of alternative pathways for admission, which may allow 2007 NSW and ACT Year 12 applicants to receive an offer to a course even though they have a UAI below the published cut-off.

They include:

  • Educational Access Scheme
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scheme
  • Elite Athlete Scheme – B Exercise Science only
  • Disadvantaged Schools Entry Scheme

For further details read the relevant sections below in ACU National's entry.

Year 12 Access Schemes
You must be a 2007 Year 12 student and be eligible for a UAI or Limited UAI to apply to the following access schemes. You must also meet relevant course prerequisites - see individual course entries for ACU National.

Note: An offer to a course under these schemes can only be made if you have completed the application procedures and included the course as a preference on your UAC application.

Elite Athlete Scheme
2007 Year 12 applicants who have demonstrated exceptional sporting skills (including an internationally competitive history) may be selected for admission to 105500 and 115500 B Exercise Science on the basis of a questionnaire and interview.

For an application form visit www.acu.edu.au/forms or call Strathfield campus Student Centre on (02) 9701 4012, or North Sydney campus Student Centre on (02) 9739 2305. The closing date for applications is 29 October 2007.

Disadvantaged Schools Entry Scheme
The University recognises applicants from ACT and NSW schools that have been designated as disadvantaged. Applicants from these schools will receive bonus points where they include ACU National preferences.

This adjustment will be made automatically before offer rounds commence. Eligible applicants are not required to lodge an application for this adjustment. Ask your Careers Adviser whether your school has been included in the scheme.

Limited UAI
Refer to the information about 'Limited UAI' in the Universities Admission Index section on this website.

Non-2007 Australian Year 12 applicants

If you are not a 2007 Australian Year 12 student, you may be considered for entry to the University on the basis of one of the following categories. In some cases you may need to complete a questionnaire - refer to the course description for B Inclusive Education and Disability Studies 101110, 111110, and B Exercise Science 105500 and 115500 for further information.

Current students of ACU National
Current students, including students on interrupted study, who wish to transfer from one course to another, must formally apply by transfer application to ACU National. Former ACU National students, who have completed one year or more of study, should apply for readmission directly to the University.

    Alternative entry
Applicants who are not 2007 Australian Year 12 students may apply on the basis of:
  • Tertiary Preparation Certificate
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) The STAT is recommended to anyone who does not hold formal educational qualifications
  • ACU National UniAccess-Australia programs (previously known as University Preparation Program, foundation or access programs). A range of programs are available at all campuses - for information call any ACU National Student Centre.

TAFE or equivalent qualifications
Applicants with TAFE or equivalent qualifications will be considered for admission in competition with all other applicants. Applicants with an Enrolled Nurse Certificate may be admitted to the B Nursing course under this category.

Overseas qualifications

If you hold overseas secondary or tertiary qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction you must provide evidence of English language proficiency.

Refer to table 7 – Commonly accepted overseas secondary qualifications for information on overseas secondary qualifications.
