Major studies: The course covers studies in creative non-fiction and fiction, including experimental writing, journalism, life writing, writing for stage and screen and writing genre.
Professional recognition: Graduates will be eligible for membership of the Australian Society of Authors (ASA), Australian Writers’ Guild, Australian Association of Writing Programs, Copyright Agency Limited, Sydney PEN, and State-based Writers’ Centres.
Career opportunities: Examples include writer of novels and scripts; food, nature, art and travel writer; feature journalist; critic and reviewer; essayist, poet or public intellectual; editor and publisher; writer in marketing and public relations, the public service and arts-related industries.
Additional information: This 16-unit Diploma aims to provide students with a broad range of skills spanning several writing genres. It enables students to focus on the practice and theory of writing, along with developing the attributes and skills needed for a professional career in writing. After completion of this course, students may study a further eight units (one year full-time, two years part-time) to gain a Bachelor of Arts degree. Many of the writing units are also taught at the Coffs Harbour campus.
