Recommended studies: HSC Mathematics Extension 2 (with a mark of at least 180 for Extension 1 and Extension 2 combined).
Major studies: Actuarial studies, analysis of mortality rates and other population-based rates and contingent payments, mathematics of finance, probability and statistics.
Professional recognition: This degree is accredited by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust). This means that if you complete the three-year degree with grades of credit or above in the relevant units in the program you are granted exemption from Part 1 of the IAAust’s professional exams. If you complete a four-year double degree involving actuarial studies with grades of credit or above in the relevant units you are granted exemption from Parts 1 and 2 of the IAAust’s professional exams.
Career opportunities: Examples include life, general or health insurance actuary, superannuation consultant, funds manager, risk analyst, energy and environment consultant and insurance analyst.
