Additional information: All students study a core of finance, management, economics, marketing and accounting in their foundation year. Students can have the flexibility to choose one or two of the 10 major areas of study to complete their degree. Students are encouraged to combine the B Commerce with other degrees to form double degrees or to combine the B Commerce with Law to form a combined degree.

Accounting: Collection, measurement and communication of economic information which is used for planning, reporting and decision making.

Applied Econometrics: Application of quantitative techniques to economics and is used in economics analysis, forecasting, the development and testing of theories and economic models and policy analysis.

Business Demographics: Demographic analysis is a powerful tool that can explain a number of social, economic and business data. Includes the study of the size, structure and distribution of populations and how populations change over time due to births, deaths, migration and ageing.

Commercial Law: Opportunity to study law as it relates to commercial activities both within Australia and overseas. Alerts you to legal issues in commerce, finance and accounting practice as well as providing insights into the impact of the law on individual rights and general business practice.

Decision Science: Practical methods for translating data into efficiency improvements. Manage resource allocation, supply chains, and large projects with computer simulations.

Economics: Effectively analyse economic decision making by individuals, business, government and global organisations and understand complicated economic and social processes, intervene to make outcomes better, and set policies that have a major effect on society.

Finance: Study financial organisations, markets and instruments, their effect on the flow of funds within the economy and the control of risk. Finance focuses on the financing and investing decisions made by the finance manager of an organisation.

Human Resources: Involves a wide range of activities associated with the management of employees, the employment relationship, including the recruitment, selection, remuneration, development and retention of staff. Understand the processes and techniques that create and maintain high performing, efficient and ethical organisations.

International Business: Consider the implications of business decisions on a global scale, as well as for Australian businesses. Look at the global business, society and environment, cross–cultural management and business policy, together with marketing fundamentals.

Marketing: Understand how an organisation identifies and anticipates customers’ needs, then organises resources to ensure that those needs are satisified in a way that builds long-term, mutually rewarding relationships between the customer and the organisation.
