Recommended studies: Any two units of English.

Major studies: Social work, theological disciplines.

Practical experience: Students must complete 1000 hours of supervised field education. This is undertaken in two practica in approved agencies. Each practicum is normally of 16 weeks’ duration and is undertaken in Years 3 and 4 of the program.

Honours: Students may be eligible for admission to B Arts (Honours) in Theology, which requires an additional year of full-time study or equivalent. Students who have completed all requirements of the first year of B Social Work (ie the third year of the dual degree program) may be eligible for admission to B Social Work (Honours).

Professional recognition: All graduates of the program are eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Career opportunities: Examples include social worker and/or pastoral worker in government and non-government agencies such as health, church and community organisations, welfare ministry of the church, community services, education, corrective services, rehabilitation and social services.
