Courses FAQs

  • What should I do before I apply?

Make sure you check the admission requirements of the course descriptions available through the course search and institution entries.

The applying through UAC Postgraduate FAQs detail the steps involved in applying for admission through UAC.

  • Am I eligible for the course?

To be eligible to be considered for a course you must:

    • meet the admission requirements of the institution offering the course and
    • meet the entrance requirements of the course – some courses have course prerequisites or additional selection criteria.

Additional selection criteria can be found in the course descriptions available through the course search.

  • How many courses can I select?

    • You can select up to six courses.
    • If you're interested in only one course, then select only that course.

Remember: You can only include the courses listed in the course search. Check the course updates for up-to-date lists of new and cancelled courses.

  • Does the order in which I enter my courses matter?

Yes if you're selecting courses at:
    - Macquarie University
    - University of Canberra
    - University of New England
    - University of New South Wales
    - University of Newcastle
    - University of Sydney
    - University of Technology, Sydney
    - University of Western Sydney.

These institutions use a preference-based offer system. This means that they may make you only one offer (if you're eligible). That offer will be to the highest course that you list, for which you're eligible and competitive enough.

Therefore, if you're listing more than one course for one of these institutions you must list your courses in the order in which you'd like to receive an offer.

No if you're selecting courses at:
    - Australian Maritime College
    - Australian National University.

These institutions use a multiple offer system. This means that they may make you more than one offer (if you're eligible). The offer/s will be to the course/s for which you're eligible and competitive enough.

Therefore, you don't need to list your courses to these institutions in a preferred order.

The institutions will consider your application separately. You can receive offer/s from more than one institution regardless of the order in which you list your courses. Therefore you don't need to list your courses in a preferred institution order.

  • How do I change my course preferences?

You can add, delete, or change the order of your courses using Check & Change.

First, read the closing dates listed in the course search, then follow the instructions in Check & Change. There is no UAC charge to change your preferences.

You can't change your courses by telephone, letter, fax or email.

  • Can I do my course by distance education?

Some distance education courses are offered through UAC – check the course search and look for 'Distance' as the pattern of attendance.
