Courses and changing preferences FAQs

You can change your course preferences through Online applicant services. There is no UAC charge to change your preferences. You will need your UAC application number and UAC PIN to do so.

You cannot change your course preferences in writing, by telephone or email.

  • How many courses can I select?

    • Select up to six courses.
    • If you are interested in only one course, then select only that course.

Remember: you can only include the courses listed as current on this website. Check the course search and course updates.

  • What should I do before I apply?

The Applying through UAC Postgraduate FAQs detail the steps involved in applying for admission through UAC.

  • Does the order in which I enter my courses matter?

Yes if you are selecting courses at:
    - Macquarie University (MQ)
    - Southern Cross University (SCU)
    - University of New England (UNE)
    - University of Canberra (UC)
    - University of Newcastle (UNCLE)
    - University of New South Wales (UNSW)
    - University of Sydney (USYD)
    - University of Technology, Sydney (UTS)
    - University of Western Sydney (UWS).

These institutions use a preference-based offer system. This means that they may make you only one offer (if you are eligible). That offer will be to the highest course that you list, for which you are eligible and competitive enough.

Therefore, if you are listing more than one course for one of these institutions you must list your courses in the order in which you would like to receive an offer.

No if you are selecting courses at:
    - Australian Maritime College (AMC)
    - Australian National University (ANU)
    - La Trobe University (LTU).

These institutions use a multiple offer system. This means that it may make you more than one offer (if you are eligible). The offer/s will be to the course/s for which you are eligible and competitive enough.

Therefore you do not need to list your courses to these institutions in a preferred order.

The 12 institutions will consider your application separately. You can receive offer/s from more than one institution regardless of the order in which you list your courses. Therefore you do not need to list your courses in a preferred institution order.

  • Can I change my course preferences?

You can add, delete, or change the order of your courses.

First, read the closing dates listed in the course search and the course updates. Then follow the instructions in Online applicant services – the only costs to you are your internet access charges.

You cannot change your courses by telephone, letter, fax or email.

  • Can someone change course preferences on my behalf?

All information obtained by UAC from your application is confidential. For privacy reasons we will not discuss information relating to your application with anyone else. If you will be absent during the admission process, you may authorise a relative or friend to act on your behalf.

If you wish to authorise someone to act on your behalf, follow the instructions when you apply.

If you do not provide UAC with this information when you submit your application you may write a letter of authority including:

    • the printed full name of the person who will be acting on your behalf
    • the signature of the person who will be acting on your behalf
    • your signature
    • your UAC application number.

Write to UAC, Locked Bag 112, Silverwater NSW 2128.

  • How do I receive an offer?

    Read the Offers FAQs.

  • Can I do my course by distance education?

Some distance education courses are offered through UAC - check the course search and look for 'Distance' as the mode of study.
