About

The Master of Financial Planning is a highly specialised program that has been designed and developed in consultation with industry experts.

The degree combines advanced technical rigour with practical and relevant performance-focused learning outcomes, and also offers contemporary teachings in financial advice strategy and theory, financial markets and products, risk management, tax law, compliance and ethics. Western’s Master of Financial Planning is accredited by Financial Planning Education Council and the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) and by the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA).

Offered online, this degree is designed to give you advanced knowledge of financial planning and increase your competencies in financial advice strategy and theory, financial markets and products, risk management, tax law, compliance and ethics.

If you are eligible for our Challenge Assessment, you can gain credit for your existing knowledge and experience within the financial planning industry, allowing you to fast-track your path to the full qualifications you now need.

Admission criteria

Either:

  • undergraduate degree, or higher, in a business discipline; or
  • undergraduate degree, or higher, in any discipline and two years’ full-time equivalent managerial/professional work experience in a related field; or
  • undergraduate degree, or higher, in any discipline and five years’ full-time equivalent general work experience in a related field.

Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application for all work experience listed on the application with one of the following:
– Statement of Service
– a current CV and a Confirmation of Employment. Applicants seeking admission through an established industry partnership agreement can provide an alternative to the Confirmation of Employment. This can either be a letter on employer letterhead specifying their role and length of service or the industry declaration form.
