What do I need to before I use Apply-By-Web?

  • Check that you can access Apply-By-Web
  • Have your personal details ready (name, address, email address, telephone number). Note that you must provide an email address when you apply.
  • Make sure you can pay the application processing charge (read "How do I pay for my application?" below)
  • Have handy any student numbers, qualification names and school names that are relevant to you. These may include:
    - Australian Year 12 student number, the name of your Year 12 qualification and the year completed
    - Australian university student number, the name of your tertiary qualification and years attended
    - TAFE student number, name of qualification and years attended
    - UAC application number if you are applying for a course from which you previously deferred
    - New Zealand University Bursaries examination candidate code number
    - International Baccalaureate (IB) student number
    - name of overseas Year 12 qualification, country and date of completion
    - name of overseas post-secondary studies, name of institution and years attended.
  • Have a list of your chosen course codes ready. You can choose up to six courses – read Choice of courses for more information.
  • Make sure that you have the necessary browser on your computer. You will need up-to-date browser versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari. Remember to give yourself enough time to update your browser version if you need to do this – well before closing dates.
  • Make sure that you have an inkjet or laser printer connected to your computer.

What do I need to do after I have applied?

  • Print and save your Confirmation of application.
  • Check whether there are additional course requirements for any of your chosen courses. For example, you may need to sit an additional test, submit a portfolio of work or attend an interview. Check the course search for details of any additional course requirements.
  • Check whether you need to provide UAC with documents to support your application. Apply-By-Web will remind you about this when you have completed your application. Read Documentation for further information.

How do I pay for my application?

    The processing charge is $49. You can use a number of options to pay. They include:
  • credit card (MasterCard and Visa)
  • PayPal
  • BPAY (in Australia only)
  • over the counter at Australia Post outlets (in Australia only).

How many applications can I submit?

You may submit only one application. If you change your mind about your choice of courses, simply change your courses. Read Choice of courses for more information.

How many courses can I choose?

You can choose up to six courses.

When do I have to apply?

What times of the day can I use Apply-By-Web?

Apply-By-Web is available between 7.30am and midnight (Sydney local time).

How long does it take to apply?

It should take you about 30 minutes to complete your application.

What if my connection to the internet is slow?

    Apply-By-Web should download quickly, but will be slower if:
  • you are applying close to or on a closing date
  • you are applying during the peak usage period (4pm to 10pm)
  • the speed of your modem or the bandwidth of your internet service provider's connection is insufficient.

Remember that using Apply-By-Web will be much quicker and easier if you don't leave your application until the last minute!
