Applying interstate

Applying interstate

Choosing to enrol in a university course is an important decision in your life. When making this decision Australia's Vice-Chancellors believe that you should consider the full range of universities available. Australia has 37 publicly-funded universities and two private universities.

Although this might make the process of decision-making more difficult, there are advantages for both students and universities. Your options as a student are expanded. Instead of having to choose from only one or two courses in your preferred field, you will have a full range of courses to consider. This means you can pick out the ones that best meet your needs and interests. It will also encourage you to have a broader outlook about yourself in an Australian and global society.

For universities, having students from interstate allows them to offer diverse and specialised courses in a greater number of areas. Specialised courses which otherwise would only attract a small number of home-state students can continue to flourish with increased numbers of interstate students.

In a world that is increasingly global in its perspective, it is important for universities to have a diverse mix of students. This provides the right structural foundation for a system which is truly international in its focus.

Websites for all Australian universities can be reached via links on the Universities Australia, website at www.universitiesaustralia.edu.au, or via links on each tertiary admissions centre website.

Documentation

If you are a 2008 Australian Year 12 student you do not have to supply your results to the tertiary admission centres because they will obtain your results from the appropriate authorities when they become available. If you completed an Australian Year 12 before 2008, read the online instructions carefully to determine if you must provide documentation with your application.
