University of Technology, Sydney

The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) is a dynamic and progressive university with a global perspective that is linked to the life of the city and the knowledge requirements of industry and the professions.

UTS has strong industry links and places a strong emphasis on workplace experience. Many of our courses include the opportunity to gain this experience working in industry and through a distinctive focus on practice oriented teaching, learning and research.

Our course content is regularly reviewed by industry advisory committees and we extensively use industry practitioners for teaching to ensure that what is taught is up-to-date and relevant to future careers.

We understand the reality of balancing work, family commitments and study. A large number of our courses are offered with flexible timetabling options. UTS offers comprehensive professional services to support every aspect of your student life, including sport, housing, health, special needs, careers, financial assistance, learning skills, counselling and IT support.

Another of our key strengths is the social and cultural diversity of our students and staff, as well as our strong international profile. This diversity has created a vibrant and rich learning environment that prepares graduates for the borderless workplace of today. Our main campus is Sydney’s only truly city-based university, making it easy to access by public transport and close to Chinatown, Darling Harbour and the CBD. A secondary campus is the Kuring-gai campus in Lindfield on Sydney's north shore.

Admission requirements

Read Admission and selection for general information.

Admission requirements are the minimum qualifications you need before you can be selected for admission to a course of study. To be considered for entry to UTS undergraduate courses, you must have an Australian Year 12 qualification with a minimum UAI or equivalent of 66.00.

As an international student attempting one of the following qualifications, you will apply for admission through UAC International and will generally be selected on the basis of your performance in these studies (that is, your UAI or equivalent):
  • an Australian Year 12 qualification (either offshore or in Australia)
  • an International Baccalaureate in Australia
  • a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement Level 3.

When assessing your application UTS may take any or all of your qualifications or attempts at study into account.

Limited UAI
The University accepts the NSW Limited UAI for admission purposes - read UAI.

Additional selection criteria
In addition to achieving the standard of performance required for admission, for UTS Engineering courses you have the option of submitting an online questionnaire. The questionnaire may be taken into account in conjunction with your UAI or equivalent. You can submit the online Engineering questionnaire at https://support.eng.uts.edu.au/entry/.

Offers made to applicants who have a UAI (or equivalent) below the published cut-off

UTS has an alternative pathway for admission, which may allow applicants to receive an offer to a course even though they have a UAI or equivalent below the published cut-off - the UTS HSC Bonus Scheme.

UTS HSC Bonus Scheme
For a select number of courses, UTS will award bonus points to applicants undertaking the 2008 HSC based upon performance in subjects relevant to your course preferences. For further details about the HSC Bonus Scheme, including the selected HSC subjects and maximum number of bonus points awarded, visit www.uts.edu.au/study/undergrad.html.

International applicants applying for admission on the basis of qualifications other than those listed above must apply directly to the University, not through UAC International. For details visit www.uts.edu.au/international/.
