Frequently asked questions – Offers
Offers
What is a conditional offer?
Approximately 48 hours after you have submitted your application to UAC, you will receive a conditional offer letter, which you may use as part of your pre-visa assessment if required. Your conditional offer letter lists all the courses for which you have applied. You can view this letter through Online applicant services.
This letter is a conditional offer of admission only. You need to receive an unconditional offer to be eligible to enrol in a course of study. You need to meet the minimum admission requirements of the institution and compete against other applicants to receive an unconditional offer.
^topWhat is an unconditional offer?
To receive an unconditional offer for a course you must have the course in your list of courses when offers are made, have a UAI (or equivalent) equal to or higher than the final cut-off for admission to the course, and have met any other course entry requirements.
UAC will send unconditional offer letters to successful applicants on behalf of institutions starting mid-December 2008, after your final Year 12 results have been received directly from the relevant Australian body or the New Zealand Qualifications Authority or the International Baccalaureate Organisation. You do not have to provide a copy of your results to UAC as we obtain them directly.
^topHow many offers can I receive?
You may receive only one offer per institution in each offer run.
^topHow will I know if I have received any offers?
Institutions make their offers progressively in a number of offer runs from mid-December 2008 through to February 2009 for Semester 1 courses (starting in February 2008). For further information read Offers.
^topIf I don't receive an offer, how can I find out why I was unsuccessful?
You will be sent a notice which tells you the reasons why your application was unsuccessful.
You will need to speak to the admissions office at the institution concerned, as to why you were not made an offer and what your study options are. The institutions, not UAC, decide who will receive offers to courses.
^topHow do I accept my offer?
Follow the instructions in your offer pack about how to accept your offer, how to pay the required tuition fee deposits and the compulsory Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) charge. Some institutions have online acceptance and facilities for online payment of fees and charges.
Take particular notice of any deadlines the institution has for accepting the offer.
Once you have accepted your offer and sent your payment, the institution will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). This document will allow you to obtain your student visa.
^topHow do I enrol?
Most institutions include subject selection and course planning during the orientation program. Some institutions have online enrolment.
^topWhat is orientation?
Orientation programs are designed to help you adjust to life at the institution, the institution environment and Australia.
^topIf I receive an offer, can I apply to defer my enrolment?
Read the institutions entries to check each institution's policy .
