Apply-By-Web troubleshooting

To use Apply-By-Web you need Internet Explorer 7.0 or above, Firefox 2.0 or above or another up-to-date browser.

  • Is Apply-By-Web secure?

Yes. Apply-By-Web uses a Transport Layer Security (TLS) to provide a secure environment. This establishes a session between the UAC web server and your browser, and encrypts all data transferred between your browser and UAC's web server.

Your browser may display details of UAC's server certificate before you connect to the application that you must accept to proceed.

  • Why do I receive an error message indicating a 'JavaScript error' while using Apply-By-Web?

You must have JavaScript enabled in your browser to use Apply-By-Web. You need Internet Explorer (IE) 7.0 or above, Firefox 2.0 or above or another up-to-date browser.

  • Why do I receive an error message indicating a '500 Internal Server Error' with several lines of computer code appearing when I click a 'Next' button?

This error can be caused by one of two things:

    1. Your session expired and the server was not able to identify you. The maximum time permitted between keystrokes is 30 minutes. This is a security feature designed to protect you if you leave your application unfinished on a public computer. Simply login again, and complete your changes.
    2. There may be a programming or system error. Please copy the error message you have received into the enquiry section of the enquiry form and record what part of the application you were completing when the error occurred. UAC will investigate what may have caused the error and get back to you with a solution.

  • Someone else's information is displayed during my session. Why?

Auto Complete is enabled on your browser. Auto Complete is a feature of Internet Explorer which is automatically turned on by default. You can choose whether to use Auto Complete for web addresses, forms and passwords, or not use it at all.

You can clear the history for any of these by doing the following:

    • On the 'Tools' menu in Internet Explorer, click 'Internet options'
    • Click the 'Content' tab
    • Under 'Auto Complete' click 'Settings'
    • Uncheck 'Use Auto Complete' for 'Forms' and ' Usernames and Passwords on forms'.

  • What if Apply-By-Web downloads slowly?

Apply-By-Web should download quickly, but will be slower if:

    • you are applying close to or on a closing date
    • you are applying during the peak usage period (4pm to 10pm Sydney local time)
    • the speed of internet connection is below 56kbps (dial-up).
