Assumed knowledge: Any two units of English.

Major studies: Adult education key program of eight core adult education units plus four adult education electives (selected from the units within the adult education sub-majors listed below).

Minor studies: Community education; cultural diversity and workplace learning; literacy and numeracy; teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL); vocational education and training.

Practical experience: The core strand includes opportunities for students to gain experience through workplace-based and other relevant project work. These opportunities are an important way of building students' employability following graduation.

Honours: Available as an additional year to meritorious students.

Career opportunities: Examples include roles in TAFE, workplace training and development, community services, registered training organisations and employment services as well as employment as a trainer within specific areas of employment such as nurse educators and community educators.

Additional information: B Adult Education is characterised by its flexibility in delivery and career orientation. Class times are designed to meet the needs of different student cohorts, including working students with family responsibilities.

The degree offers students the opportunity to study both a core program in adult education and to specialise in areas relevant to their particular career direction. Studies other than adult education can include, but are not limited to, business studies and human resources, computer studies, environment and science, social sciences and teaching pathways. Advice about study pathways and career options is an integral aspect of your study in B Adult Education.

For students who already have experience and/or qualifications relevant to employment within the field of adult education we have a nationally recognised Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) procedure. Under this program students can receive up to two-thirds of the degree in RPL, depending on experience and qualifications. This is determined by an interview and portfolio once you are enrolled in the degree.
