You will meet with the Executive Dean and the senior leadership of the College of Arts at regular intervals to discuss your studies and to explore opportunities for further advancement.

Students must maintain a grade-point average of 5 or above to remain in the course (ie a credit average or better must be maintained). Those who do not maintain this average will be transferred to B Arts.

Different majors are available at the various campuses. Before listing your preferences check the location of your preferred area of study. B Arts offers students an opportunity to develop a depth of disciplinary expertise together with the breadth of vision afforded by cross-disciplinary approaches to the humanities. Study in the humanities is designed to develop communication and personal skills, creativity and a capacity for independent thought, adaptability to new situations and problem-solving skills.

Students who do not meet the entry standards of B Arts (Dean’s Scholars) but who are offered a place in B Arts may be considered for a transfer after first year if they achieve a grade-point average of 5 or above.

Teaching pathway through B Arts: Students interested in a career in teaching or education should refer to shaded box below.

Careers in teaching and education
Primary teaching
A primary teaching pathway through B Arts provides you with a four-year teacher training qualification, which begins with the three-year B Arts degree, providing a broad educational qualification and strong academic preparation in a number of key learning areas of the primary curriculum. The B Arts is followed by a year of intense professional preparation at the Masters level for primary teaching.

If you wish to become a primary teacher, completion of B Arts at UWS provides you with guaranteed entry to the UWS Master of Teaching (Primary), if you satisfy the following criteria:
  • undertake discipline units that meet KLA requirements for teaching in primary schools
  • achieve a 'pass' average throughout your studies
  • apply within one calendar year from the end of the year in which you complete your B Arts program.
If you receive an offer for the B Arts at UWS and you are interested in receiving a packaged offer to include the Master of Teaching (Primary), please contact UWS International.

Secondary teaching
Students who wish to become secondary teachers first complete an undergraduate degree in the discipline they wish to teach, then complete the Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree, usually in one year.

If you wish to become a secondary teacher in areas such as English, history, languages or human society and its environment (which includes both history and social science units), completion of the B Arts at UWS provides you with guaranteed entry to the Master of Teaching (Secondary), if you satisfy the following criteria:
  • undertake discipline units that meet the requirements for your chosen area of teaching
  • achieve a 'pass' average throughout your studies
  • apply within one calendar year from the end of the year in which you complete your B Arts program.

If you receive an offer for the B Arts at UWS and you are interested in receiving a packaged offer to include the Master of Teaching (Secondary), please contact UWS International.
