Major studies: Catchment management, climate science, ecology, environmental management and planning, freshwater ecology, land management, natural resources, social ecology, vegetation management, water resource management.

Practical experience: Minimum six weeks' fieldwork within the professional field.

Career opportunities: Examples include catchment management officer, fisheries officer, landcare officer, soil conservation officer, agricultural consultant, flora and fauna managers with public and private companies.

Additional information: Provides training in the management of the environment for sustainability focusing on the interaction between the natural and human environments to ensure ecological, social and economic sustainability. The course combines subjects in ecology, water resource management, agriculture, natural resources and social and political science to produce graduates who understand the total environment and who can develop real solutions to real problems. Business practices in the environmental industry are taught in the final year to produce graduates ready for a wide range of positions.

This course incorporates subjects from the School of Environmental Sciences in Albury and Wagga Wagga, and from the School of Agricultural and Wine Sciences in Wagga Wagga. Students taking this specialisation may be required to undertake some distance education study in second and third years.

Master of Environmental Science option: In third year students may elect to enter the Master of Environmental Science stream. Upon completion of their Bachelor degree, these students are able to enrol in the Master of Environmental Science and can complete the course in one year of full-time study. Students who elect this option are therefore able to complete both a B Environmental Science and M Environmental Science in four years.
