Course prerequisites: ACT: Specialist Mathematics major/minor (160+); NSW: HSC Mathematics Extension 1 (Band E3) or equivalent. Recommended studies: ACT: Specialist Mathematics double major; NSW: HSC Mathematics Extension 2.

Major studies: Accounting and finance, actuarial studies, economics, statistics.

Honours: Available as an additional year, subject to progress requirements.

Professional recognition: Satisfactory attainment in the professional actuarial courses may be accepted by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia for exemption from some examination subjects for Fellowship of the Institute.

Career opportunities: Examples include professional actuarial consultancies, financial advisers to governments and commercial organisations such as life, general and health insurance companies, superannuation and pension funds, investment companies, banks and stockbrokers.

Additional information: Actuarial studies is the application of mathematical, statistical, economic and financial analysis to a wide range of practical problems in financial planning and management.

Combined degrees: B Actuarial Studies can be combined with 134424 B Finance, 134434 B Commerce, 134444 B Economics, 134200 B Statistics, 137445 B Laws and 134484 B Science. Entry to B Laws is highly competitive and places are subject to quota restrictions.
