What do I need to do before I use Apply-By-Web?
- Check that you can access Apply-By-Web
- Have your personal details ready (name, address, email address, telephone number)
- Make sure you can pay the application processing charge (read "How do I pay for my application?" below)
- If you are Year 12 applicant have your Year 12 student number and your UAC PIN handy; if you are an IB student you will need your IB student number
- If you are a Year 12 applicant decide whether you need to complete a Full Year 12 Apply-By-Web application. You will need to complete a Full Year 12 Apply-By-Web application if you:
- have previously completed an Australian Year 12 qualification
- are attempting both an Australian Year 12 qualification and an International Baccalaureate in Australia
- have previously completed a NSW Limited UAI
- have previously attempted Australian preparation studies for tertiary entrance
- are attempting a Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT), eg for entry to a pharmacy course
- have previously attempted a STAT (including in May 2008), eg for entry to a pharmacy course
- have previously attempted the UWS Regional Entry Test (RET) in 2000–2006
- are attempting or have previously attempted tertiary studies in Australia or overseas
- have continuous employment experience of more than one year full-time; this does not include a part-time after-school job (note that only CSU will consider employment experience for Year 12 applicants)
- have qualifications or employment experience under a previous name
- applied to UAC last year
- applied to UAC last year and were granted a deferment. - Have handy any student numbers, qualification names and school names that are relevant to you.
These may include:
- Australian Year 12 student number, the name of your Year 12 qualification and the year completed
- Australian university student number, the name of your tertiary qualification and years attended
- TAFE student number, name of qualification and years attended
- previous UAC application number if you are applying for a course and were granted a deferment
- New Zealand University Bursaries examination candidate code number
- NZ NCEA Level 3 candidate code number
- International Baccalaureate (IB) student number
- name of overseas Year 12 qualification, country and date of completion
- name of overseas post-secondary studies, name of institution and years attended. - Have a list of your chosen course codes ready. You can choose up to nine course preferences.
- Make sure that you have the necessary browser on your computer. You will Internet Explorer 5.0 or above, Firefox or Safari. You can download the latest versions of these from links on Apply-By-Web. Remember to give yourself enough time to do this - well before closing dates.
What do I need to do after I have applied?
- Check whether there are additional course requirements for any of your chosen courses. For example, you may need to sit an additional test, submit a portfolio of work or attend an interview. Details are in the course descriptions accessed through the course search.
- Check whether you need to provide UAC with documents to support your application. Apply-By-Web will remind you about this when you have completed your application. Read Documentation for more information.
How do I pay for my application?
There are a number of options for you to pay the application processing charge. For example, you can use a credit card (MasterCard or Visa only), BPay, Australia Post or a PayPal account (PayPal allows you to transfer money securely from your nominated bank account to UAC). For Year 12 applicants it costs $23 and for non-Year 12 it costs $49.

You may submit only one application. If you change your mind about your course preferences, simply change your preferences.

You can choose up to nine course preferences.
^topWhen do I have to apply?
To apply on-time, you must complete and submit your application by midnight on Tuesday 30 September 2008. If you apply after midnight on Tuesday 30 September 2008 you will have to pay a late fee plus the processing fee. Do not wait until the closing date to apply!
^topWhat times of the day can I use Apply-By-Web?
Apply-By-Web is available between 7.30am and midnight.
^topHow long does it take to apply?
It should take you about 30 minutes to complete your application.
^topWhat if my connection to the internet is slow?
- Apply-By-Web should download quickly, but will be slower if:
- you are applying close to or on a closing date
- you are applying during the peak usage period (4pm to 10pm)
- the speed of your modem or the bandwidth of your internet service provider's connection is insufficient.
Remember that using Apply-By-Web will be much quicker and easier if you don't leave your application until the last minute!
