Equity Scholarships

Equity Scholarships (ES) help financially disadvantaged students with the general costs associated with tertiary study.

Equity Scholarships are awarded to students from low socio-economic backgrounds, particularly those who receive Centrelink income support payments such as ABSTUDY, Austudy, Youth Allowance, Newstart Allowance, Disability Support Pension, Parenting Payment (Single) or the Carer Payment.

There are two types of Equity Scholarships:

Who can apply?

You can apply for an Equity Scholarship through UAC if you're a currently enrolled student, or hope to receive an offer of admission in 2016–17 to one or more of our participating institutions. Applications remain open from August until July the following year.

By submitting just one Equity Scholarships application through UAC you’ll be considered for all available Equity Scholarships for which you’re eligible at the participating institutions.

Before you apply, download the 2016–17 Equity Scholarships booklet for information about the types of scholarships available at each institution and the eligibility criteria.

Final applications close Wed 12 July 2017.
You can only submit one application to Equity Scholarships for 2016–17 admissions.

Being eligible does not guarantee a scholarship

Meeting the scholarship eligibility criteria doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be awarded a scholarship. There are a limited number of Equity Scholarships and there are more applicants than scholarships.

As part of a competitive application process, applicants are ranked against eligibility criteria and institutions award scholarships to applicants who best meet that eligibility criteria. If you’re unsuccessful it doesn’t mean that you’re not in need; rather, it means that there are other applicants who’ve been assessed as being in greater need.

If you're unsuccessful, your application may be considered in future offer rounds provided the institution at which you are currently enrolled or from which you have received an offer is participating in that offer round. Check which institutions will be participating in each offer round.

Institutions decide which scholarship rounds to participate in and who will receive an Equity Scholarships offer. UAC doesn't select applicants, or have the power to persuade institutions to make a particular offer, or question decisions made by institutions.
