Equity Scholarships Mid-Year 2008
Equity scholarships are awarded to university students who are experiencing difficulty with the costs of living and studying.
If you are experiencing financial hardship and need assistance with your higher education and/or accommodation costs you can apply for an Equity Scholarship and if you are successful in your application, scholarship payments will commence in semester 2, 2008.
Nine universities are offering Equity Scholarships for second semester 2008 through UAC:

Southern Cross University
University of Technology Sydney
University of Newcastle
University of New England
University of Sydney
University of Western Sydney
Applications open on Monday 21 April 2008 and close on Friday 13 June 2008

Applications
Equity Scholarships are comprised of:
- Commonwealth Scholarships (CS), established by the Australian Government; and
- Institution Equity Scholarships (IES), established by individual institutions.
CS
There are seven types of CS which do not have to be repaid and are exempt from tax if you are a full-time student. Please see page 3 of the Equity Scholarships Booklet for complete details of the value and duration of equity scholarships and page 4 for details of the eligibility requirements.
IES
The value and duration of IES vary between institutions check Table 5 on page 14 of the Equity Scholarships Booklet for complete details of the value and duration of IES and the associated eligibility requirements.
Application Process
Equity Scholarships applications for semester 2 2008 open on Monday 21 April 2008. Applications close on Friday 13 June 2008. To apply you will need an application form and an Equity Scholarships booklet.

If you previously applied for an Equity Scholarship but were unsuccessful, you are welcome to re-apply. However, you must complete a new application and include new supporting documentation (where required). Your previous application material will not be used for your mid-year Equity Scholarship application.
