International Studies courses are designed to increase awareness and understanding of the non-English speaking world. The courses introduce you to languages and cultures and teach you about contemporary society in Asia, Europe and the Americas. They provide you with the opportunity to spend an academic year at a university overseas. The cost of tuition and travel to and from the designated overseas institution are borne by UTS.

Check the individual course descriptions for requirements with early closing dates.
Assumed knowledge: No prior language knowledge is required; refer to individual course entries for more information about the professional degree.

Additional selection criteria: Refer to specific course descriptions for the non-international studies degree component; some courses require the submission of compulsory questionnaires or personal statements – the disciplinary areas offering the professional degree with International Studies selects students into the program.

Major studies: International studies major in: Canada (Quebec), Chile, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latino USA, Mexico, Spain and Switzerland. Majors are allocated by the Institute at the end of first semester of the first year of the degree program. You are admitted to the International Studies program with no guarantee of entry to a specific major, although every effort is made to meet your preferences. The University reserves the right to allocate places in majors according to its resources and arrangements with overseas universities.

Other majors: Refer to the relevant degree entries for each course.

Practical experience: You will have the opportunity to spend an academic year studying in the local language at a university in the country of your major in the fourth year of the program.

Career opportunities: Refer to the relevant single degree entries as it is this component of your combined degree that will direct your career opportunities. You will also gain qualifications in language, intercultural competence, international awareness and a country speciality all of which are highly valued by employers in the global workplace.

Additional information: The degrees are designed to provide an international perspective for the selected professional degree at UTS. Students are required to meet living costs while overseas. Student contributions apply for in-country study subjects. You are advised that living costs in some countries are higher than in Sydney. Students admitted into a single degree at UTS may apply to transfer into a combined degree with International Studies via the University's online Internal Course Transfer process towards the end of their first year.

The following courses are offered jointly by International Studies and one of the disciplinary areas of the University.
