Recommended studies: Any two units of music.

Major studies: None, but study areas available in music production, composition, or performance (choice of voice, electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards). Entry to the Performance major is by audition late in semester two of the first year of study, with students commencing the major in in the second year of the degree.

Practical experience: Many students perform at north coast entertainment venues.

Professional recognition: Australasian Performing Rights Association; International Association for the Study of Popular Music; International Society for Music Education.

Honours: Available as an additional year (or part-time eqv) to meritorious students.

Career opportunities: Examples include performers, recording and mastering engineers, recording studio managers (depending on study area chosen).

Additional information: Facilities include recording studios, a music production workstation laboratory, a keyboard laboratory, a TV studio and concert performance space, and well-equipped tuition and practice facilities. The course is conducted in a rich regional musical environment, which includes annual events such as Splendour in the Grass or the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival at Byron Bay.
