If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, aged over 21 by 1 March in the year you wish to be admitted to the university, and you do not meet the university's minimum admission requirements, you have alternative methods of admission. ANU has different alternative requirements for different faculties and courses, so visit www.anu.edu.au and download the 2009 Undergraduate Student Guide for more information about:

It is not a substitute or alternative pathway to enter University, but takes into account circumstances that may have affected your ability to perform well educationally – including competing as an elite athlete. - The following schemes are offered by the University to help applicants who have suffered disadvantage during the course of their studies, and to improve accessibility to university courses for certain groups due to equity reasons.

- Special Consideration for Admission Scheme for admission for applicants with a record of tertiary study
- Mature-age Entry Scheme for students who will be 21 years of age or over on 1 March of the year of entry to the University, do not have a UAI or equivalent, and/or have not completed one full-time year (or part-time equivalent) of tertiary study and have completed an approved preparation course.
- Flexible Entry Scheme for school leavers whose UAIs fall just below course cut-offs
- Elite Athletes & Performers Scheme for applicants whose results have been by affected by training commitments
